"Conditioning has to do with a lot more than age. Getting out as much as possible is critical." - Swaylocks Longing. 65th-66th Street O.City. 5/11/2018 |
When the Atlantic starts changing temps 'round here, she changes fast. Last week of April we were in the upper 40's. First week of May, hovering at 50F. Now in the low 60s. The ocean has become quite incalescent (look it up). First time out, had the full suit. Terrible. Forgot how much I dislike neoprene. Past week, shed the gloves. Very comfortable. Better. Lookin' at a shortie next time out. Progression. Like staying wet. Getting out much more often than the past year. Shedding the kook. Progression is good.

Couple of summer entertainers won my 'fridge's heart. First up was Lagunitas CitruSinensis. 7.7% ABV. 49 IBUs. A Pale Ale not for the slight of tongue. Huge notes of smashed blood orange (it's in there), mango, and of course grapefruit. Malt front with a bitter piney citrus aftertaste. Poured a bright gold with a finger plus white, fizzy head. Very fresh fruit aromas perfect for bringing in the warmer weather. Rated a B+/A-.
A brewer new to the Shore and making their mark in the area this season is Narragansett Brewing. An outta state import from Rhode Island. Had seen Del's Shandy popping up more frequently as I perused my local beer traders. Like it was calling to me. Actually turned out to be a fair refresher. Nothing cultured. Definitely a good fit for the Sho'. Poured shimmering yellow-gold with scents of grass and lemon. Tasted of lemon sweet-tarts and malty grains. 4.7% ABV, and 14 IBUs kept it light. On a hot summer day...maybe a post surf session...in an iced glass? Jazzed. Rated a B/B-.
