Not doing well so far. Could blame it on the conditions. Some rollin' swells out there. A veritable Nor'east boil. And it was a challenge just to get into the lineup. Knocked on my ass was not unusual. Once out, more about holding position, controlling the drift, finding the start point. Wind was whippin.' Waves would jack to about chest-high at the last second. Deep troughs made 'em difficult to judge. All of 'em pretty much lefties, no matter how many times I'd take it on the head lookin' for the frontside. But, it's not cold...warmin' up finally. Water hangin' 'round 68-69F. Shed the spring suit for the rubber top. Need to get rid of the NE winds but more importantly, need to settle down and settle in. Here's to hopin' the conditions clean up over next few days.
No worries, got a nice "warm weather welcome" beer. Brewery Vivant, the brew house occupying a former funeral home in Grand Rapids, MI (visited in 2019). Brought in the spring/summer surf season with Tropical Saison. Pineapple-Mango farmhouse ale. Got a 4-pack on the last trip to Michigan. Easy drinkin' at 5.5% alcohol. Hazy, golden orange pour with a fizzy, finger-thick, white head. Thin lace. Smell had notes of peppery Belgian yeast combined with mango fruit. More of the tell tale Belgianese zest in the taste with some hint of pineapple, and plenty more mango. Light bitter finish. About 25-30 IBUs. Not bad. Gave it a B rating.
